This blog series is simply to provide a way to share the studies I have done of various parts of the Bible. I only share this to that I can have a place to record my learnings and so that others can gain a deeper understanding of God's Word quickly.
Each entry will cover 1 chapter and will be in 2 parts
1) Short Summary, reading these will be like reading a condensed version of the bible.
2) Little Know Facts, various facts that help put the truth of scripture into context

Matthew Chapter 7
|
Summary
Jesus concludes His sermon on the mount. Jesus says that we are not to judge or we will be judged, to ask and we shall receive, seek and we shall find. The gate to heaven is narrow and only those who produce "good fruit" will enter. Those who call on Jesus' name but prophesy falsely will be rejected. We must be wise and build on solid rock, not on sand.
Misc Notes
- Jews, Greeks and Romans all had their version of the golden rule, but theirs was in the 'negative' form
- the Holy Land would experience torrential rains and subsequent floods

Matthew Chapter 6
|

Sermon on the mount continued...Serve the Lord with humility, do not boast about praying, fasting or giving. Pray directly and privately. Store up heavenly treasures, not earthly treasures and do not worry, each day will handle itself.
Misc Notes
- Jews put ashes on their head when fasting, Jesus says to wash and keep up regular appearances
- grass was used to heat clay ovens

Matthew Chapter 5
|
Summary
Jesus begins the sermon on the mount. Talks about the beatitudes, discusses how he is not a replacement of the law, but is a fulfillment of the law. he also talks about anger between friends, adultery being an action that starts in the heart, the sin of divorce, and how we should speak on truth, not on swears. Jesus talks about turning the other cheek and how we must love our enemies.
Misc Notes
- most salt came from the dead sea & contained impurities that made it, at times, less salty.
- Matthew uses "heavenly father" 17 times while Mark and Luke only use it once and Jon did not at all
- turn the cheek - the verb 'strikes you on the cheek' is more of an insult in the greek than an attack
- tunic...cloak - old testament law prohibited lending the cloak "outer garment used for sleeping". This illustrates the extents we are to go to

Jesus preaches around Capernaum about repentance and recruits Simon Peter, his brother Andrew, John and James (sons of Zebebee) as deciples. Jesus then performs miracles and preaches in Galilee attracting a large crowd.
Misc Notes
- Jesus' temptation likened to Moses' and Israel's wander in the desert (Dt 8:2)

Matthew Chapter 3
|
Summary
John the Baptist is prophesying Jesus' coming and baptizing those who come to him repentant. John condemns the Pharisees and Sadducees that are there watching him. Jesus goes to John to be baptized as an example to His people and in doing so pleases God.
Misc Notes
- John's leather belt and camel garb indicates he was a prophet much like Isaiah
- Baptism marked the start of Jesus' ministry and was not needed, but done as an example for His followers
- the Greek 'tense' of the praise "I am well pleased" is timeless indicating Gods pleasure in Jesus has always been and will always be

|
Summary
The genealogy of Jesus is shown, from Abraham to David to Jesus. Mary is engaged to Joseph and conceives by the Holly Spirit. Joseph is convinced not to divorce Mary by angel but, instead marries her and names the boy Jesus.
Misc Notes
- family line from Abraham-Jesus covers ~2000 years
- family line covers 32 generations
- 3 of 5 women mentioned in genealogy were gentiles, shows that Jesus' love is not exclusive to Israelites
